Authoritative data is released: industrial robot sales will double in 2018

According to IFR forecasts, until 2018, the wave of digital transformation and automation will continue to drive the development of industrial robots. This year, global industrial robot sales will grow at an average annual rate of 15%, and China is the fastest growing region in the world market.

According to the latest forecast of the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), the global sales of industrial robots will almost double to 400,000 between 2014 and 2018. It is predicted that by 2018, global sales will grow at an average annual rate of 15%. China is the fastest growing region in the world market. In 2014, sales increased by 56% compared with 2013.

According to the IFR news, despite the recent economic recession in China, its potential is still huge. The federation pointed out that the Chinese production industry currently uses only 36 robots per 10,000 employees, while the number of robots in Korea is 478, the number is 315 in Japan, 292 in Germany and 164 in the United States. According to IFR, by 2018, the number of new installations of industrial robots in China will exceed one-third.

China and four other markets (Japan, the United States, South Korea and Germany) account for 70% of global robot purchases. “Including ancillary services, we estimate that the global market value will reach $32 billion in 2014,” IFR President Arturo Baroncelli said. “The main driver of development is global competition in industrial production.”

The automotive and electrical/electronics sectors continue to dominate the industrial robotics sector, accounting for a combined 64% market share. In 2014, the global automotive industry set a new record with 100,000 units installed – an increase of 43% over 2013. New production facilities in emerging markets have triggered this new upsurge, and the wave of modernization has swept the existing car-making countries.

Similarly, the electrical/electronics industry set a new record in 2014, with sales up 34%. This industry currently accounts for 21% of the global robot market.

Last year alone, German industrial robot purchases reached their largest ever – about 20,100, a 10% increase from last year. The German market is far ahead of any other European country, and despite its high-density robots, IFR expects the automotive industry to push it further.

The number of industrial robots installed in the United States increased by 11% in 2014, totaling approximately 26,000 units. IFR expects huge growth opportunities in the US market, and the US industrialization of robots as an industrial center is growing rapidly.

According to IFR forecasts, until 2018, the wave of digital transformation and automation will continue to drive the development of industrial robots. For example, the Industry 4.0 project means that the human-machine team is at the forefront of breakthroughs. Easier to use robots will also open up new applications, both for small and medium-sized companies and large enterprises. IFR said that the metal processing, plastics, food, packaging and other industries are also increasingly feeling this technological change.

[International Robot Federation]

IFR (InternaTIonalFederaTIonofRoboTIcs), the International Robotics Federation, was formed by the National Robotics Association of 15 countries in 1987. It is a non-profit professional organization. Today, the International Robotics Federation has 25 member countries (regions) who are actively involved in collecting and disseminating information and intelligence about robots. As a result, the International Robotics Federation has been recognized as the main representative of the robotics industry worldwide and has been listed as a non-governmental organization by the United Nations.
